Interpretation

Dreaming is an intimate experience we have every night.  Our dreams can be gateways to our thoughts, emotions, and feelings.  They mirror our deepest hopes, needs, fears, and desires.  Through our dreams, our subconscious reveals a hidden self.  Our dreams can predict the future or warn us of danger.  Interpreting our dreams can help us to understand ourselves and help solve problems.

When interpreting dreams, you must remember that your dreams are more than what they seem.  So if you dream that you are dead, it doesn’t mean that you are going to die soon; most likely your dream is warning you of coming dissolution or sorrow.

People you know and are close with are often seen in your dreams.  More often than not, these familiar people should be interpreted as the images they represent, and not themselves.  For example, fathers represent authority while mothers represent comfort and compassion.

Just like people can be seen symbolically, symbols can represent ideas.  Even the little things can represent ideas.  Let’s say you dream an extravagant dream with lots of little objects throughout the dream.  For example, in your dream, you may find a key in your pocket.  You may pass this off as nothing to be concerned with, but a key often means that a door to new opportunities is about to open.  Depending on what you do with the key, it can mean many more things.  If the key is lost, unpleasant adventures will affect you.  Find a key and a pressing problem is about to be solved.  It is important to remember the fine details, because nothing is trivial in a dream.

Recurring dreams are important and show us our personality’s weaknesses and strengths.  Recurring dreams deal with aspects of our lives that have not solved or sorted out.  These dreams are repeated because their message has not been received or understood.  Once the problem or issue has been resolved, the repetitive dream stops.

Outside influence on sleep affects our dreams.  Some dreams can be of little importance and have no significant meaning.  For example, dreams that occur after you have had a major shock can be disregarded.  When you have these dreams, your imagination is overworking and is helping to create things that have no real meaning behind them.  Overeating and having too much to drink can affect your dreams and make them less significant also.  Other things can affect our sleep such as noises.  Have you ever had a dream where there was a ringing bell and you suddenly awake to hear your phone ringing?

When you begin to analyze and interpret your dreams, try to remember one main feature in your dream and go from there.  Look it up in a book or check out different websites online.  Don’t look at just one reference and think that it is the only one that is right.  The symbolic meaning of an object, in a dream, is perceived by experts in many ways.  Hopefully you will find what you are looking for, gain some insight to your inner self, and find completion to those troubling issues in your life.  Keep a dream journal or diary within reach of your bed and as soon as you wake up each morning, reach for it, without changing your position too much.  Jot down as many details as you can remember and begin to understand yourself more completely.
